(The Present Family Theme Song)
A song for all of us exhausted parents doing our freakin best to parent the kids, while also parenting ourselves, while it feels the world is melting down around us all.

A few years back, I (Joy) asked my incredible friend Taylor Leonhardt to help us write a theme song for the mission of The Present Family.
An anthem is a crucial and powerful thing when one is facing the war of overwhelm and despair. I knew I needed (and that we all needed and NEED) an anthem to sing to ourselves.
To sing when it feels like there is just too much to attend to— and our arms, bank account, and capacity can only reach so far. It can be heartbreaking… and… an anthem helps.
Since Taylor wrote and recorded this song, Donny, the kids, and I have listened to it on so many chaotic mornings in our house with the days starting off extra heavy… and then… we put on this song and somehow find ourselves remembering the power of our FOCUS.
We hope this melody is a gift for your family and your soul, the way it has been to ours.

Lyrics to “Right Here” (The Present Family Theme Song)
Kitchen sink, the dishes piling up.
Mouths to feed, but will there be enough.
Patience wearing paper thin, the chaos wear me out.
I want to be here in the moment, but I don’t know how...
When I take your hand,
When I slow down
I let the light come in
I lay my worry down.
Looking in your eyes,
I have nothing to fear
All we need’s right here.
Overwhelmed how do I ask for help.
When I believe the lies I tell myself.
You want to show me what you’re making,
Pulling on my arm.
I feel my defenses falling and my beating heart…
When I take your hand,
When I slow down
I let the light come in
I lay my worry down.
Looking in your eyes,
I have nothing to fear
All we need’s right here.
I hear laughter in the loudness.
I see wonder in the mess.
I feel magic all around us,
I don’t want to forget…
When I take your hand,
When I slow down
I let the light come in
I lay my worry down.
Looking in your eyes,
I have nothing to fear
All we need’s right here.
